Intel SE7501CW2 Board
Posted by Todd Woodward last month
This is an Intel SE7501CW2 board inside a Rackable Systems 2U case with a 3Ware 4-port IDE RAID card. This system will not boot from a USB CD- or DVD-ROM drive due to the age of the BIOS. So you will either have to temporarily use an ATAPI CD-ROM drive to install the OS, or use PXE booting. There is a Phantom4 4.0 serial management card for remotely monitoring the vitals of the system and for remote power on/off, however, I haven't delved into that yet. The serial connection is a RJ45 port. There are two network ports: 10/100 and a 10/100/1000 network port. It supports up to 8gb of RAM. PCI specifications: Segment A: 32-bit, 33 MHz, 5 V (P32-A) with four embedded devices: • 2D/3D graphics controller: ATI Rage* XL with 8 MB of SDRAM • One Intel® 82550PM 10/100 Fast Ethernet controller • One Intel® 82540EM gigabit Ethernet controller. • Two PCI slots capable of supporting full-length PCI add-in cards Segment B: PCI-X 64-bit, 66MHz, 3.3 V, (P64-B) with the following configuration: • Two PCI slots capable of supporting full-length PCI add-in cards Segment C: PCI-X 64-bit, 133 MHz, 3.3 V (P64-C) with the following device: • One PCI slot capable of supporting full-length PCI add-in cards There was a screw-up in the order where the server arrived with 1 x 160gb drive, instead of 4 x 40gb drives. (What's the point of RAID with only one drive?) However, UNIXSurplus promised by phone to ship out the correct drives. Other than some tape residue and expected wear-n-tear on the outside, I was amazed at how CLEAN the inside was. No dust bunnies! Information on the specific board is available here from Intel: ftp://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/se7501cw2/ Various resources and info is available from here from Rackable Systems: ftp://ftp.rackable.com/public/Technical%20Support/ Information on the Phantom4 card is available here: ftp://ftp.rackable.com/public/Technical%20Support/Pdf%20files/Phantom_Roamer/ I would have given this a higher rating if there hadn't been a mixup in the order, and if the information about the server on this website had been more complete. Regardless, ordering was easy and shipping was fast.
